Grammy Award-Winning Act
To Perform for Star Spangled Springfield

Springfield, Massachusetts– The Commodores will bring their Grammy Award-Winning songs to the Star Spangled Springfield celebration on Thursday, July 4 in Riverfront Park. The program begins at 6:30 p.m. in Festival Field with welcoming remarks from Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. He will be followed by the more than 100 young voices of Dan Kane’s Rising Stars. At 8 p.m., The Commodores, sponsored by MGM Springfield, will take the stage to perform their legendary Motown hits that include “Brick House,” “Three Times a Lady,” and “Night Shift.” They will keep the crowd dancing until 9:30 p.m. when Fireworks by Grucci will ignite the evening sky.

The Commodores consists of Walter “Clyde” Orange, William “WAK” King, and James Dean “J. D.” Nicholas. Orange and King are original members, and Nicholas, a former member of the British band Heat Wave, joined in 1984. They are rounded out by “Mean Machine,” a world-renowned rhythm section.

The group has remained a force in the music industry for more than four decades. The Commodores formed in 1968 while college students at Tuskegee Institute in Alabama. They were discovered by Motown Chairman Berry Gordy when they opened for The Jackson Five tour in 1972 and went on to sell more than 60 million records for Motown with hits like “Sail On” and “Machine Gun.” The Commodores were Motown’s largest selling act during the 70’s and 80’s.

The Commodores promise a great performance on July 4 in Springfield. For some, it will be a great introduction to the 70’s and 80’s funk sound and for others, it is sure to bring back memories of good times. Regardless, The Commodores live performance is sure to please all ages as they deliver hit after hit with emotion and excitement during their high-energy performance.
