New North Citizens Council Endorses MGM Springfield

SPRINGFIELD (MA) July 2, 2013 – MGM Resorts International today announced that its MGM Springfield proposal has received the exclusive endorsement of the New North Citizens Council, Inc. (NNCC). At a meeting held on Wednesday, June 26 the Board of Directors, of the NNCC unanimously voted to endorse the MGM Springfield proposal for the development of a resort casino in the South End of the City of Springfield.

The NNCC earlier today delivered a letter to Mayor Domenic Sarno informing him that the organization supported his choice for a casino developer. The City Council also received copies of the letter.

"MGM Springfield conducted their presentation, heard our concerns, and returned to participate in discussions with us that addressed employment; fair market rents; educational development opportunities; as well as social justice issues that will impact everyone in the City of Springfield," said Jose A. Gonzalez, Board President of NNCC. "We will focus on getting the word to the residents to come out on July 16th and vote yes for MGM Springfield."

Bill Hornbuckle, MGM Resorts President and Chief Marketing Officer and MGM Springfield President said, "We are thrilled to have the endorsement of the New North Citizens Council. This well respected community organization has the best interest of the residents of Springfield in mind. We are honored that they believe in our project and will partner with us to bring out voters for a yes vote on July 16th."

MGM Springfield representatives have held more than 400 community meetings since their August 2012 announcement. These meetings/presentations have been a way to inform, educate and hear from different communities throughout the entire city to better understand their needs and their priorities.

Founded in 1973, the NNCC provides advocacy, public and human services to Hampden County residents with an emphasis on the Hispanic/Latino community for the purpose of enhancing the preservation and support of the family resulting in the improvement of quality of life.

MGM Springfield is proposed for 14.5 acres of land between Union and State streets, and Columbus Avenue and Main Street. MGM is seeking the sole gaming license in Western Massachusetts. Since unveiling plans in August to develop MGM Springfield, an approximately $800 million world-class residential, retail, dining and entertainment district, MGM Resorts continues to demonstrate a strong commitment to the entire City of Springfield and its existing infrastructure.
